Last day of Red Snapper Fishing Today, Halloween

Wed Oct 31 2007, 11:06AM

Happy Halloween and hope you get out to catch a snapper or two before the closure tonight at midnight.

Texas Offshore

Tue Oct 30 2007, 03:36PM

Federal red snapper season closes Oct 31st. There was quite a bit of wind today offshore as the boys are waiting for a break. The red snapper bite has been excellent but with the season closing, the fleet is concentrating on amberjack, yellowfin tuna to 80 pounds, some wahoo and kingfish as well as some sharks.

Redfish Bays and northward

Tue Oct 30 2007, 03:35PM

Decent redfish and trout on the back of San Jose and Matagorda Islands with plastics cranked near the bottom very effective. There is also fish around reefs and shorelines near Mesquite, Carlos and Ayers Bays. The drop- offs off Aransas and Redfish Bays also are holding lots of rockfish.

Bull reds are still hitting in good numbers around the Galveston jetties

Tue Oct 30 2007, 03:34PM

The Gulf side of the south jetty has been very productive with lots of fish between 38 and 48 inches. Cut shad has been killing them. Wind is the biggest obstacle so hopefully, it will stay calm.

Galveston Ship Channel area- Fall Flounder run is on

Tue Oct 30 2007, 03:34PM

decent flounder fishing on live mullet for bait with an occassional redfish too. It's one of those right place at the right time deals but if you work hard, you can end up with a decent catch.

Galveston Bay Update

Tue Oct 30 2007, 03:33PM

Fishing heated up this last weekend after a very slow week. It wasn’t the conditions but you could fish. Like many we put together dinner for all the trips but we had to grind it out. IF we could just get the wind to lay down a little it would help out, until then we’ll just have to grind it out and make each hit count.

Ok as for locations it was happening a little of everywhere. Burnett and Scotts is holding some nice sized Trout when the wind is up but on weekends the boat traffic slows it down really quick. The Anahuac Pocket is producing some Trout and Flounder and then there’s been birds North of the river up to Jacks Pocket and over towards the spill way. Rollover Pass has been hot for Flounder and some Specs but the waders and coming in from the land and boats from the intercoastal so it’s was a tight fit this weekend for anyone a weekday trip would be the best bet for Rollover. East Bay was producing Trout and Flounder with a Red here and there in the mash drains and back in the marsh along the south shoreline and towards the back of the bay. The area around Robertsons Bayou was good for Trout and Reds during the week back to the refuge but no reports over the weekend I know it was loaded with boats Saturday. The area along the intercoastal from the Old Shirleys to the point of Bolivar produced some Flounder during the week but I heard it slowed over the weekend. If we can get the wind to lay Big Hanna’s along with Deep Reef are holding Trout and Sandys but we have to be able to drift without the rollers from the wind. Birds worked Friday when the wind was down from Deep to the back of East Bay but once again with a pumping wind they sit.We are in a great time to fish the water temperature has dropped and the weather is right but the wind needs to lay a little so we all can spread out a little. Coming off the Full Moon this should be a turn around week and into next week. I look for the Trout bit to continue to improve everywhere and the Flounder to keep coming. Protected areas in the marsh this time of year can be the ticket but be courteous of other boaters if their there first. As for the classes I’ve been doing I’m still doing them mornings and afternoons, weekdays and weekends. The classes cover all of East Bay from the Point of Bolivar to Smith Point and back to Rollover Pass and everything in between, which will take you through the fall fishing and into the winter months. These are private classes done by appointment, one on one or with a fishing buddy. I will be covering it all from fishing locations to bait riggings. The first Half hour will be at the dock marking up your map, once that’s covered we will be hitting the water marking fishing spots (G.P.S. locations will be given) and when I like to fish them and how I fish them. This is a no holds bar class. I won’t be mixing people unless you put a group together and then it needs to be only up to 3 persons. I’m doing this for a one-on-one so each person will get the most out of it. Give me a call to set up a date for your class or if you have any questions.I want to thank Chris’s Marine, Haynie Boats, Coastline Trailers in Seadrift Tx, and Mercury Motors for the nice 12’X12’ Billboard they have put up in both directions between the Light house and the Ferry Landing on Bolivar advertising their products and GalvestonBayFishing.Com. It looks great from the road in both directions.Good news Crystal Canal Bait Camp should be holding bait again this week and thru the weekend. As of now they are holding Live Shrimp and a few Croaker they are nice and Live Crabs with frozen mullet and squid for the surf, they also have bulk ice by the 5 gal bucket for $2.00. They should be open in the mornings around 6:00am for the morning run. Call and check for up to date hours and bait, you can reach them at 409-684-6624. Donny, Carol and Chip are ready for the 2007 season and still have the quality bait as always. They also hold some great table shrimp if not sold out.Stingaree Marina is open with 2 loading ramps, they are holding live shrimp and croaker along with bulk ice. They have been opening around 6:00am. Their phone number to check is 409-684-9530. Well until next weekBe safe and watch the weatherCapt. David Harris

Aransas Pass

Tue Oct 30 2007, 03:32PM

Aransas Pass Our tides have dropped back to normal since the strong cold front pushed through. Redfish are on a feeding frenzy. the water temperature dropped pretty good when the cold air pushed through, but the fishing has been great since the front has made it through. Monday was not fishable with wind gusts up to 57 mph and early morning thunderstorms. Winds were strong on tuesday and wednesday, but Reds were biting good on live mullet. Reds will continue to bite good over the next several weeks. Be sure and keep an eye on the weather this time of the year as cold fronts will frequent the area more often as we ease into November. Good luck on your next fishing trip. Contact me for any information you may need on your next fishing expedition. I can provide you with lists of places to stay for your convenience. Capt.
